New US Tariffs

The new tariffs planned by the White House on European products, including boats, are going to hurt.

Currently, the tariff is 10% on boat imports from Europe, and the market for new boat sales in the U.S. is in serious decline.

What if this tariff were to rise to 30% as planned for August 1, 2025?

The European brands affected are the dominant brands for 40′ and over:

Azimut Benetti: from Italy
Groupe FERRETTI (Riva, Pershing, Ferretti, Wally): from Italy
Groupe Sanlorenzo: from Italy
Groupe Beneteau (Beneteau, Jeanneau, Prestige, Lagoon): from France
Fountaine-Pajot: from France
Galeon, Sunreef, Saxdor, Axopar: from Poland
And more…

For the time being, the big British groups are excluded from this 30% price hike: Sunseeker and Princess. But they are subject to the 10%.

So, we’ll keep an eye on the market for you, and get back to you with the best buying strategies.
The purchase of used, older, recent and very recent boats is not subject to these tariffs if they are already, for example, on American territory.

These current and expected tariffs mean that buyers are increasingly looking to used boats to avoid them.

So, if you’re in the process of making a purchase, these are the factors that will greatly influence your decisions. The pre-owned market is abundant in the U.S., but the bargains will be the first to go in the coming months.

The brokers at Ita Yachts Canada and its ProprioBateau division are familiar with the U.S. and European markets, so they can work with you to determine the tax implications of sailing outside Canada, and the impact of returning your boat to Canada.

We look forward to hearing from you…(514-521-1221 in English and French).
